Kayaking Eligibility Criteria
In order to kayak with GEA, the following requirements apply, the liability waiver you must sign will state you have read and comply with these requirements:
All participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Individuals less than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Children must be a minimum of 3 years of age to participate when accompanied by an adult.
Our kayaks have a weight limit. Participants should not exceed approximately 200 pounds in weight. GEA kayaks are “sit inside” kayaks and some have small cockpits and limited weight capacities. There are no sit on top kayaks available.
Lifejackets must be worn at all times near the water and while in the kayaks, no exceptions.
In the event of a kayak capsize, participants must be able to:
Swim (with lifejacket) for short distances.
Breathe independently (i.e., not require medical devices to sustain breathing).
Independently maintain sealed airway passages while under water.
Independently turn from face-down to face-up and float face up (with life jacket).
Independently get out and from under a capsized kayak.
Independently hold head upright without neck / head support.
Independently manage personal mobility.
Independently follow instructions and effectively communicate.
Independently get in and out of the kayak.
Maintain a safe / stable body position while in the kayak.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on GEA kayaks.
Weather: if thunder is heard, kayaking launching will be delayed at least 30 minutes. If on the water and thunder is heard / lightning observed, return to the launch location immediately or find a place to get to land and wait for the storm to pass. If it is raining, you may choose to reschedule your kayak outing.
